Man Arrested After Police Find 125 Marijuana Plants

Last updated on Tuesday, July 3, 2012

(BEDFORD) - An Indianapolis man turned himself into police after officers found 125 marijuana plants growing in a field.

According to Indiana State Police Segeant Greg Day, a concerned citizen contacted him after they noticed suspicious activity in the vicinity of Dillman Road.

Day, while off-duty, and trooper Justin Butler, went to Dillman Road, just south of Silverville-Williams Road and found a plot that was used to grow marijuana.

They recovered 125 small marijuana plants that were about 6-inches tall, and had recently planted in the area. The dry weight of the marijuana plants resulted in an amount of less than 30 grams, making the offense an "A" misdemeanor.

Had the plants been allowed to mature and discovered later in the year, they would have generated between 100 and 200 pounds of marijuana with a street value between
$150,000 and $250,000.

The person who called police about the suspicious activity was able to provide police with a license plate number from a truck that was seen in the area.

Police found the truck belonged to 58-year-old Charles Watts, of Indianapolis.

On Monday, Watts, turned himself in to Sgt. Day and Trooper Michael Robbins at the Lawrence County Jail.

Watts was charged with cultivating and possessing marijuana, less than 30 grams.
