(BROWNSTOWN) - A 24-year-old Crothersville man found guilty of murder in connection with his father's shooting death three years ago received a 58-year prison term this week in Jackson Circuit Court.
John Aaron Shoultz III also received a 15-year prison term for possession of a weapon by a serious violent felon.
Jackson Circuit Judge Bill Vance handed down the sentences Monday.
Vance ordered Shoultz III to serve the two sentences concurrently.
On June 8, a Jackson Circuit Court jury found Shoultz guilty of murdering his father, John Aaron Shoultz Jr., 48, at his home on South State Road 39 in the Crothersville area. The murder occurred May 2, 2009, after an incident in which the defendant and his girl¬friend taped the legs of his mother's dog, sparking a confrontation between father and son.
Shoultz III remains at Jackson County Jail in Brownstown pending his transfer to a state prison.
Shoultz III received 1,170 days credit and 1,170 days credit time for the days he has spent in jail since his arrest.
According to Vance's order, the estimated cost to incarcerate Shoultz III for the terms of imprisonment is $1,149,910.76.
