(SWITZ CITY) - Kylee Nicole Grissom of Jasonville was crowned Miss Greene County 2012 during the annual queen contest Saturday evening at the Greene County 4-H Fairgrounds.
Anna Rochelle of the Greene County Daily World reports that Katrina Leighann Davis was named first runner-up and Bethany "Brooke" Arthur was second-runner up.
Arthur was also named "Miss Congeniality."
Grissom is the 19-year-old daughter of Darin and Karen Grissom of Jasonville. She graduated from Shakamak High School with the Class of 2011 and plans to get a degree in health care support from IVY Tech Community College.
Davis is the 20-year-old daughter of David and Terry Davis of rural Linton. She attends IVY Tech Community College where she is majoring in early childhood education.
Arthur is the 18-year-old daughter of Bill and Pam Arthur of rural Bloomfield. She is a 10-year 4-H member, a graduate of White River Valley High School, and plans to attend Purdue University to major in agriculture communications.
There were 10 contestants in the pageant emceed by Lori Brown, president of the 4-H Clubs of Greene County. Brown and Vickie Aydt served as the organizers of the queen contest but said this is their last year. Brown has been at the helm for 13 years, Aydt for 12 but they are stepping down to make way for someone new, Georgette Dater who has assisted with the Daviess County queen contest for several years.
The contestants arrived at the fairgrounds at 2 p.m. for the interview portion of the contest which lasted until 5 p.m. Following dinner provided by the Lite House Lunchbox Café, they prepared for the professional wear and evening gown portions of the contest at 7 p.m. on the runway before a crowd.
During the interview, contestants were judged on their ability to converse, personality and poise. In the professional wear segment, they were judged on posture, poise and overall impression, and in the evening gown segment, stage presence and overall impression.
In winning her crown, Grissom had an unusual opportunity to demonstrate her poise when the cord to the microphone accidentally became twisted around another person. She handled the situation beautifully and didn't skip a beat.
Other contestants included:
* Chelsea J. Hineman, the 19-year-old daughter of Jon Hineman and Michelle Tabelman. She is a 10-year member of 4-H, a graduate of Linton-Stockton High School and will attend Purdue University in the fall to major in pre-veterinary medicine.
* Paige Hoffeditz, the 17-year-old daughter of Kimberly and Brad Nickless and David Hoffeditz. She is a nine-year-member of 4-H and will be a senior at White River Valley High School.
* Courtney Ann Johnson, the 16-year-old daughter of Troy and Carol Johnson. She is a 4-H member and will be a junior at Linton-Stockton High School.
* Abby Kindred, the 16-year-old daughter of Brad and Amy Kindred. She is an eight-year member of 4-H and will be a junior at Bloomfield High School.
* Jesse McDonald, the 16-year-old daughter of Russ and Michaele McDonald. She is involved in 4-H and will be a junior at White River Valley High School.
* Carrie Mitchell, the 18-year-old daughter of Steve and Becky Mitchell. She will be a freshman at IVY Tech Community College majoring in nursing.
* Sarah Poe, the 18-year-old daughter of Mary Poe. She is a 10-year member of 4-H, a graduate of Linton-Stockton High School and will attend Vincennes University to major in agriculture.
The queen, crowned by Miss Greene County 2011 Ariel Fuller, will receive a $500 scholarship, an engraved crystal vase, crown and sash, $200 cash plus a garment bag, duffle bag, chair and leather sash provided by Taylor Creations, Mary Kay cosmetics provided by Vickie Aydt and tickets to Holiday World.
Fuller explained a new gift for the queen had been added - a traveling charm bracelet provided by Francis' Jewell Box. Each year the queen will add a personalized charm to the bracelet then pass it on at the end of her reign.
Other winners received plaques, sashes, cash, totes from Taylor Creations and Mary Kay Cosmetics from Vickie Aydt.
Holli Moore, the Clay County Queen 2012 was a special guest in the audience along with Clay County Princess Gabby Brough.
This year's judges were Coranne Vanderkolk, Laura Cross and Joni Miller.
Vanderkolk is a graduate of Linton-Stockton High School, Miss Greene County 2005 and a 500 Festival Princess in 2008. She attends Indiana State University where she is finishing her last year of physician assistant training.
Cross is also a graduate of Linton-Stockton, has competed in Indiana's Junior Miss program and was the 2007 Linton Freedom Festival Queen. She is a teacher of family and consumer sciences at Cloverdale High School.
Miller is a lifelong resident of Bloomfield and she has served as a Greene County court reporter for 36 years. She serves as the chairman of the Bloomfield Apple Festival Queen Contest.
