(ENGLISH) - Former Crawford County Deputy Clerk Debra Montgomery was arrested Tuesday and charged with the theft of more than $100,000.
The charge is a Class C felony.
Montgomery, 56, Taswell, also was charged with obstruction of justice and official misconduct, both of which are Class D felonies .
On Nov. 11, the Indiana State Police Special Investigations/Organized Crime and Corruption Unit began an investigation after receiving information that Montgomery had allegedly failed to collect and process more than $100,000 in traffic ticket fines.
Montgomery had been employed as a deputy clerk for Crawford County from 2002 to April of 2011. Among her responsibilities as deputy clerk was to collect and process all traffic tickets that were issued in the county. The investigation also revealed that some tickets that had been adjudicated were never sent to the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles to be processed.
Through the six-month investigation Trooper Detective Tim Denby established enough probable cause for arrest warrants to be issued for Montgomery.
On Tuesday the Crawford County Sheriff's Department served the arrest warrants on her and she bonded out on a $7,500 bond.
