Last updated on Friday, July 6, 2012

(PATOKA RIVER) - On Wednesday numerous dead fish of various species were found in the Patoka River.

According to Cpl. Trent Stinson, dead fish were found from Ell Creek Road in Dubois County to County Road 550 South in Pike County.

This stretch of the Patoka covers about 18 river mills. Officials did not release the exact number of dead fish found.

After locating the dead fish, Stinson notified the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, who sent officials out to test the water. Test results showed a depleted oxygen level, but no cause for it.
