Counties Ask Residents To Conserve Water

Last updated on Monday, July 2, 2012

(UNDATED) - Brown, Bartholomew, Johnson, Morgan, Monroe and Orange County officials are asking all residents to begin voluntary measures to help conserve water as a result of the extreme drought.

Patoka Water representatives late Saturday afternoon say that water supply in some of their service areas were becoming very low.

Brown County officials say if no or little rain is received a mandatory water usage restrictions could go into effect.

Official says the heavy water usage from people watering lawns and gardens is putting stress on the distribution systems, which can lead to costly main breaks.

Bedford had a main break on Saturday and continues to be under a boil ban until further notice. A water test was taken again today and if those results come back clear the ban will be lifted.

UPDATE (7/2, 9:30am) - The boil order for the city of Bedford and East Lawrence customers has been lifted.
