(WASHINGTON) - A Campbellsburg man who allegedly has been allowing three dogs to run at-large in the town appeared in Washington Circuit Court last week.
Ironically, on the day of his court appearance (Wednesday) there was a Town Crier call chastising law enforcement for failing to address the issue.
Campbellsburg Town Marshal David Nicholson said Kermit Wesner was given one week to confine the three dogs. He explained an earlier court date
set for Wesner was postponed because of the Spengler double murder trial.
Nicholson said part of the issue was that Wesner claimed the dogs weren't his, that he had given them to three ladies that he was living with.
Nicholson said that was a matter of Wesner passing off the problem to someone else.
He said the dogs, beagle-cross mixes, have been running back and forth between two residences, 394 N. Sycamore and 350 N. Sycamore.
The problem has been on-going for two years, Nicholson added. Last year, Nicholson issued a ticket but told Wesner he wouldn't turn it in if he confined the animals. Wesner complied, but the problem surfaced again this year.
Nicholson said if Wesner doesn't comply, he could face fines of $96 per animal plus court costs.
