(BLOOMINGTON) - A man shot and killed near a line of people waiting to apply for Section 8 housing has been identified by Bloomington police as 28-year-old Ulysses Goethe, of Bloomington.
Monroe County Coroner Nicole Meyer says Goethe died from a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene in the 1000 block of North Illinois Street around 3 a.m.
Meyer says the body has been taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital where an autopsy will be conducted.
Bloomington Police said in a statement they have no "credible information" the shooting was connected to the Section 8 line. Officers are currently pursuing several leads in the case.
Witnesses waiting in line for Section 8 housing applications say the man was shot in the head or neck and killed by someone in a silver Chrysler around 1 a.m. this morning.
Witnesses said they watched the shooter's car drive slowly up and down 13th street several times before hearing shots ring out. Several said the shooting was motivated by a dispute regarding a girlfriend.
