(BLOOMINGTON) - Winston Wood is scheduled to be sentenced on July 20.
A jury convicted the 21-year-old Bloomington man June 7 on three felony charges for leaving the scene of a 2010 summer boating accident on Lake Monroe that left a Bedford woman and her 8-year-old grandson dead.
Jurors deliberated five hours before finding Wood guilty of two counts of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and one count of leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury.
Susan and Rusty Collier and their triplet grandsons were in a fishing boat that collided with the ski boat Wood was driving. An investigation did not place fault with either boat operator. Susan Collier and Gage Pruett died at the scene. Rusty Collier suffered deep cuts to his leg.
Wood could face a jail term of two to eight years for each of the two charges of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and six months to three years on the third charge. Each conviction also carries a possible $10,000 fine.
Morgan Superior Court Judge Jane Spencer Craney presided over the trial and will sentence Wood.
