Two Girls Injured When Thrown From ATV

(FREETOWN) - Conservation Officers, along with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, went to an ATV accident 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The accident happened on private property near Freetown.

35-year-old Nathan Engelking, of Freetown, was riding the ATV in a field when he lost control, causing the ATV to flipping throwing Engelking and his two daughters, 15 and 7, from the vehicle.

Both girls were transported to Schneck Medical Center, then to Riley's Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, where they were being treated for serious head injuries.

Engelking refused medical treatment at the scene.

No one was wearing helmets.

While officers were investigating, they discovered the ATV had been stolen.

The case is still under investigation.
