Springville Man Dies In Collission On State Road 45

(BLOOMINGTON) - A Springville man died in a head-on collision Wednesday morning on State Road 45 in Monroe County.

Indiana State Police report that a 2010 Mazda four door passenger car driven by Sandra Lee Sawyer-Hughey, 54, of Washington, was traveling southbound on State Road 45 just east of Darrell Drive, approximately seven miles west of Bloomington when for unknown reasons, her vehicle drove left of center, striking a northbound 1997 Honda Motorcycle head-on, according to ISP Public Information Officer Sgt. Curl Durnil.

The motorcycle was driven by Mark Conley, 56 of Springville.

Conley was declared dead at the scene by the Monroe County Coroner's Office.

Sawyer-Hughey was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment of chest pains.

The crash investigation is ongoing.

State Road 45 was closed for almost 2½ hours while troopers investigated the crash scene, Durnil stated.

Conley was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
