Springville Festival Begins Today

Last updated on Thursday, June 14, 2012

(SPRINGVILLE) - Toe-tapping bluegrass and gospel music will fill the air and there will be plenty of food and fun in Springville this weekend as the town celebrates its community with a three-day festival.

Activities begin today with bingo and a senior king and queen contest. The festival continues Friday and Saturday with live music, flea market, inflatables for kids, baby contest, antique car show, and a parade at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Parade grand marshal is Bob Stipp, who is retiring as principal of Springville Elementary School.

Denny Godsey, festival volunteer says making Stipp grand marshal was fitting

He usually provides a car for grand marshals and for several years he's overseen the car show," Godsey says.

Since Stipp's hobby is restoring classic cars, riding in the parade is and added bonus.

The festival's 5K run/walk continues to grow every year.

"Last year we topped 100. It's a really good course. It's a certified Mag 7 and an out and back course," said Godsey. "It's flat with good scenery all the way out."

Presentation of awards and refreshments will follow the race.

Registration is Saturday from 6:30-7:30 a.m. at the Springville park. The fee is $20 day of the race or $17 in advance. Online registration is at mag7raceseries.com. Race time is 8 a.m.

Godsey says everyone should visit Springville this weekend and participate in the fun.
