Police Hope Dental Records Will Help Identify Body

Last updated on Thursday, June 7, 2012

(GRANDVIEW) - Police are hoping dental records will help them identify the body of a man found in a dilapidated barn just east of Grandview in Spencer County.

The body was found Friday afternoon by a someone looking in the barn for scrap wood. The barn is located just off Indiana 66 between Grandview and Troy.

Police do suspect foul play. They believe the body had been in the barn for at least two months.

An autopsy was performed over the weekend.

Officials say the man was wearing blue Wrangler jeans with a 40 waist, and 30 inseam, a Dickies brand shirt with a XXL Hanes pocketed undershirt. They also say the person was wearing size ten and a half Nike Shocks gym shoes with a black swoosh and red details.
The barn where that body was founds is less than 15 feet away from State Road 66 between Grandview and Troy. The barn was in disrepair but this weekend investigators tore down the rest of it apart, searching for evidence. Authorities are hoping evidence collected from the partial skeletal remains will tell them what happened to the man and how he died.

Authorities are investigating whether the head was removed because of some trauma or because of the conditions.

Based on the type and style of clothing the man was wearing, investigators believe he was between 18 and 25 years old. They also say he had extensive dental work and hope that will lead to a positive ID.

Spencer County authorities say they have no outstanding reports of anyone locally that's been reported missing.

Anyone with information regarding the man is asked to contact the Indiana State Police at 1-800-742-7475 or the Spencer County Sheriff's Office at 812-649-2286.
