(ORLEANS) - John Henry Rutherford of Orleans was arrested after he was shot his wife Jody Rutherford, with a 12-guarge Stoeger shotgun Saturday night.
Just before 6 p.m. the Orange County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call reporting a shooting at 197 North Franklin Street in Orleans.
When police arrived they found 37-year-old Jody Rutherford had been shot in the upper chest with a shotgun.
According to an Indiana State Police report, 31-year-old John Rutherford was showing the shotgun to some friends when the gun discharged killing his wife.
Jody Rutherford was pronounced dead at the scene.
John was arrested and charged with reckless homicide.
The couple's children who were home at the time of the shooting are staying with relatives.
