(CRANE) - A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be conducted June 13 for a new $13 million Strategic Weapons Systems Engineering Facility at NSWC Crane.

Nick Schneider of the Greene County Daily World reports that Capt. Johnny Wolfe, Technical Division Director of Strategic Systems Programs, will serve as the keynote speaker and Ninth District Congressman Todd Young (R-IN) will serve as the guest speaker for the 9:30 a.m. ceremony.

The new facility consolidates all of the resources and technical assets supporting trusted, high reliability microelectronics into a single state-of-the-art complex.

"The facility provides a unique engineering capability delivering trusted, high reliability microelectronics solutions for a myriad of Strategic Missions applications," NSWC Public Affairs Officer Pamela Ingram said.

The design build contractor was Can't Be Beat Fence & Construction, LLC, based in Bay St. Louis, Miss. The company has a fully staffed Region 5 office in Odon.
AEC Emersion Joint Venture, based in Columbus, Ohio, was the design firm.
Krempp Lumber Company of Jasper served as the general contractor for the approximate 51,137 square foot of space the facility that will be a permanent addition to the existing Strategic Weapons Systems Engineering Facility, Building 3334.

The addition is a two-story, steel frame structure, with concrete foundation, tilt-up exterior concrete closure, and concrete floors. Functional areas include open systems engineering labs, an environmental lab, test and evaluation labs, engineering and logistics support areas, shipping/receiving areas, conference rooms, an additional lunch/break room, restrooms, and mechanical rooms.

The lower level is several laboratories of varying disciplines with the upper level consisting of only a few laboratories, several hard walled offices, conference rooms, and open office areas.

Special features include controlled lab spaces, dry air/nitrogen distribution system, fire protection system, information system, and a C4 missile display.

"The project will also provide Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and access controls to ensure adequate security including window glazing and appropriate parking separations," Ingram added.
