(MARTINSVILLE) - Matthew Boulden, of Martinsville, is heading to jail for just one day for his role in a little boy’s death.
Boulden on Monday pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependant.
He was sentenced to one year in jail, but the sentence was suspended except for two days. Boulden was given one day of credit, leaving his served sentence at one day and he'll serve 180 days on home detention as a condition of his probation.
He and Amanda Vandagrifft left her two young sons home alone with a gun. Boulden was Vandagrifft's boyfriend at the time.
Nathan Butler, 11 years old at the time, told police he and his 6-year-old brother got into a fight and he shot him, killing the boy.
Vandagrifft's son Nathan was placed in a juvenile treatment center. He'll head back to court later this month to decide if he'll stay there, or go into the juvenile system.
Vandagrifft is also expected to plead guilty to neglect.She'll face up to 14 years behind bars.
