Lawrence County Soil & Water Conservation Sponsoring Wildlife Food Plot Program

Last updated on Wednesday, June 13, 2012

(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) and Quail Unlimited are sponsoring a wildlife food plot program for this spring.

District Coordinator Marsha Ralston noted that the program continues to be a successful wildlife food and cover development effort that has earned approval of both landowners and sportsmen.

The bags of seed contain grain sorghum, soybeans, buckwheat, corn, sunflower, hybrid pearl millet, proso millet and korean lespedeza.

The bags are being distributed throughout southern Indiana by the local soil and water conservation districts.

The wildlife food plot seed has been treated with insecticide or fungicide. The mix is not to be used in bird feeders, officials reported.

Officials recommend that the seeds be planted in odd areas not intended for agriculture purposes.

The food plot seed may be picked up at the SWCD office, 1919 Steven Ave., Bedford, (across from the former Fit for Life building) between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
