Gilstrap, who has been a police officer in Orleans for the past six years, will be sworn-in at 11 a.m. on June 29 at City Hall.

Since Gilstrap once served as a dispatcher for the Mitchell Police Department, Chief Mike Hardman said it shouldn't take long for the officer to familiarize himself with procedures.

With Gilstrap on staff, the department will have six officers on patrol.

The budget contains positions for seven police officers. The seventh position is being held for Britni Webster, who is on leave from the department as she serves with the National Guard.
