(BROWNSTOWN) - 13-year-old Jacob Rorig, of Brownstown, has earned enough points and performed well enough in the Indiana High School Rodeo Association’s junior division rodeos during the school year, he’s earned a position on the Indiana National Junior High rodeo team, which consists of 20 kids and two coaches.
He will be traveling with fellow teammates to Gallup, New Mexico from June 24 to June 30 to compete at the eighth annual National Junior High Finals Rodeo in breakaway roping and team roping.
Breakaway roping is a solo event, but team roping involves a partner, and Rorig's is Lane McPheeters, who is from Salem and attends West Washington schools.
The National Junior High Finals is the world's largest junior high rodeo, and the competition will feature more than 1,000 contestants from 47 states, Canadian provinces and Australia.
Competitors will be vying for more than $ 75,000 in prizes and $ 100,000 in college scholarships, as well as being named the national champion.
To earn that title, contestants have to finish in the top 20 after two go-rounds to advance to the final championship performance on June 30.
