(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Courthouse will be getting a facelift.
The county council voted to spend $90,680 to clean and tuck point the building.
Karr, an Iowa firm will be doing the work.
The council also approved paying $3,500 to Architura, an architectural design firm, who completed an assessment of the courthouse's structural problems which focused on the windows.
Work on the courthouse should begin soon.
The money to do the tuck pointing will come from the sale of Dunn Hospital.
Councilman Keith Dillman has concerns that there is no long term plan for the money. Council President Jim Edwards agreed and says he doesn't want to see the county nickel and dime the money away.
Lawrence County Police will have a new tool to catch criminals.
The council approved the purchase of CLEAR.
Sheriff Sam Craig says CLEAR will help officers find people faster and help close more cases quickly, by allowing officers to work more efficiently and effectively to:
Craig says because the system provides critical and private information on individuals one person will be in charge of running the information and disclosing it to officers.
In other business:
Dave Redman, Lawrence County Extension Service Educator, requested the purchase of a new telephone system for the extension service. The council approved to spend $3,875 for the new system.
