City Awards Paving Bid To Milestone Contractors

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Board of Works opened bids for street resurfacing Monday afternoon.

The city received three bids for the project and awarded the bid to Milestone Contractors, who will provide the city with asphalt for $54.75 a ton and tack coat for $2.45 a gallon.

Plan Director Dan Kirk says the city plans to complete paving on Mitchell Road and hopes to begin at the end of July. Paving will be done from about 25th Street to south of 32nd Street.

In other business:

* Fire Chief Jon Wagner asked the Board of Works to make Lt. Brent Allen's position permanent. Allen, who serves as the departments training officer, has completed his customary year of evaluation. The board approved Wagner's requests.

* Denny's Restaurant requested the approval for a curb cut on James Avenue for their new restaurant. The restaurant has gotten state approval for their plans and purchased all of their building permits hopes to begin construction soon.

* The board approved a storm water impervious area calculations agreement with Bernardin, Louchmueller and Associates Inc. for $40,000 to do a study on the city's storm water problems.

* The board approved an amendment for a sewer plan agreement for $200,500. The agreement will allow the company to study the city's sewer plan. The city is currently inspecting and cleaning out all the sewers in Bedford. The city is doing the project to comply with IDEM standards.
