Cemetery Closing Gates To Deter Theft

Last updated on Friday, June 15, 2012

(UNDATED) - In an effort to deter vandalism, all gates but the main one at Crown Hill Cemetery will close at 3:30 p.m. during the week.

The main gate will remain open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Cemetery Sexton, Dale Jonas, said there have been several incidents of vandalism and theft at area cemeteries, so in an effort to prevent that from happening at Crown Hill, they have decided to close all but the main gates when employees are not on the grounds. He said surveillance cameras have also been installed.

"We are not trying to keep people out," said Jonas. "We just want to deter theft."
