(OOLITIC) - 20-year-old Gage R. Lutes, died from chest and internal injured after a collision on Ind. 37 and West Main Street in Oolitic Friday afternoon.

According to a Lawrence County Police report Lutes was freed from the M&F Vending Service delivery van by Bedford Fire Department firefighters. He was then taken to Indiana University Health Bedford and flown by helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Lutes died at the hospital.

Lutes, who previously worked as a news announcer at WBIW radio, started working for M&F Vending in March.

Scott Gaither, co-owner and vice president of M&F Vending, Lutes was finishing his deliveries at Indiana Limestone and was headed back to Bedford.

Police say Lutes was heading west out of Oolitic on West Main Street and was attempting to turn south onto Ind. 37 and had the green light.

That is when a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup driven by 20-year-old Edward Norton, of Terre Haute ran the red light and hit the delivery van on the driver's side.

Witnesses at the scene say Norton was traveling at a high-rate of speed.

The crash remains under investigation.
