(BROWNSTOWN) - Two ambulance crewmen injured in a three-vehicle wreck Friday night were treated for minor injuries and released.
Roger Wheeler of Jackson County Ambulance Service said on Sunday that ambulance driver Matthew Montgomery, 20, Seymour, and co-worker Mark Gillespie, 30, Seymour, were treated and released Friday night at Schneck Medical Center.
Brownstown Police Officer Tom Wright said none of the injuries reported were considered to be major.
Wheeler said Montgomery and Gillespie were responding to a report of a person in western Jackson County "complaining of general weakness" when the wreck
occurred around 6:15 p.m. Friday at U.S. 50 and Walnut Street in downtown Brownstown.
Wheeler said another ambulance was dispatched to respond to that report from western Jackson County.
Wright said Sunday the ambulance's emergency siren and lights were activated at the time of the wreck. The collision occurred when a 2011 Chevrolet ambulance driven by Montgomery struck a westbound 2003 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Ran Burge, 73, Brownstown. The ambulance spun around and struck a 2009 Chevrolet Impala driven by Margo Brewer, 68, Brownstown, which was stopped on the west side of the Walnut Street intersection.
"The Suburban continued southwest through the intersection and struck a traffic light pole on that corner before coming to rest next to the building owned by Charles Greger, French Lick," Wright said. "The vehicles and pole nar¬rowly missed entering a pizza shop on the corner of the intersection."
Wright said whether any citations will be issued as a result of the wreck would be up to the Indi-ana State Police, which took over investigation of the wreck.
"(Burge) said he didn't hear it," Wright said of the ambulance siren. "For where he was coming from, he probably would not have heard it until he entered the intersection because of where he was. The buildings would have muffled the sound."
The intersection was reopened around 9 p.m., with the traffic signals still out while Indiana Department of Transportation workers awaited delivery of parts to replace the damaged pole.
Wright was the first officer on the scene, and he was assisted by Indiana State Police Accident Reconstructionist Matt Holley.
