(MITCHELL) - Mitchell Police officers arrested two 15-year-old boys for the burglaries of Smoker Friendly Discount Tobacco and Hair Vision and for stealing a car Wednesday.

At Smoker Friendly, video surveillance caught two males entering the store through a broken window. Cigarettes were stolen from the store

Mitchell Police Chief Mike Hardman says the public played a major role in solving the crimes.

The boys, Dalton Burton and Tristan Clemens were arrested and charged with burglary, receiving stolen property and auto theft. They were taken to the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center in Brownstown.

Hardman says the two boys broke into several vehicles throughout Mitchell.

"They were everywhere, breaking into cars," Hardman said. "All of the cars were unlocked and they mostly took money and other small items. They also broke into the Hair Vision and took the cash register. There may be other items missing. We are waiting for employees to come in today and take inventory."

The teens could also be the culprits that stole two trucks in Lawrence County.

"Our officers are working with detectives from Lawrence County and we should know more on that later," Hardman said.

Lawrence County Police Department received two reports of stolen vehicles. A red Chevrolet Silverado was taken from Palestine Road, and a 1987 Ford F-150 was stolen from North Meridian Road. Police are still investigating if Burton and Clemens were responsible for those thefts as well.

The teens stole a Toyota Corolla, owned by Christopher Tackett, of Pleasant View Drive.

"A neighbor saw the car fly in behind the Grace Bible Church on Hancock Avenue and called police," Hardman said. "We found it parked in the grass area behind the church and the two boys were arrested."

The cash register from Hair Visions was found in the car.
