Last updated on Wednesday, May 9, 2012

(ORANGE COUNTY) - Police are looking for thieves who are targeting churches in Orange County.

During the past week, Orange County Sheriff's Deputies have received reports from two churches that have had their air conditioning units stolen and vandalized.

"Our officers attempted to check on the churches and businesses at night; however we need the public's help to keep an eye out for this type of activity," says Orange County Sheriff Richard Dixon. "There are more than 100 churches in the county and they can be easy targets."

Dixon says all businesses and churches need to be aware that this is happening.

"We are pursuing several leads in the case and hope to apprehend the group that is responsible," he says. "In the mean time we are asking residents to watch their neighborhood churches an businesses for any suspicious activity and report it to the sheriff's department as quickly as possible."
