Last updated on Friday, May 11, 2012

(SWITZ CITY) - After-work commuter traffic on State Road 54 - west of Bloomfield - was slowed and detoured Wednesday following a two-vehicle wreck that closed down part of the highway.

According to a Greene County Police Department report, a 2005 GMC Envoy, driven by 38-year-old Ian E. Long, of Sparta, Wis., was traveling east on State Road 54, west of County Road 250W when it traveled left of center and struck westbound 2005 Chrysler van, driven by Dawn E. Myers, 43, of Elnora, according to a report filed by Greene County Sheriff's Department Deputy James O'Malley.

After making impact with the Myers van, Long's SUV left the roadway and traveled down an embankment before coming to rest on its top. Long suffered head injuries and was taken by helicopter to IU Health Methodist Hospital.

The road was closed for more than an hour and was detoured onto Baseline Road and then back onto State Road 54.

The accident remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene was personnel from the Indiana State Police, Grant-Fairplay Township Fire Department (Switz City), Richland Fire Department and the Indiana State Police.
