(BLOOMINGTON) - The family of Lauren Spierer, the Indiana University student missing for nearly a year, marked a sad occasion on Tuesday, a year since the last day they spent with their daughter.

May 8, 2011, was Mother's Day, about three weeks from June 3, the last day Spierer was seen as she walked toward home after a night of partying.

The family posted a wistful message on its Facebook page.

"How could a year have passed so quickly? Lauren, you are in our hearts every minute of every day," the message read. "We remain committed to finding the answers, which will bring you home. We will never stop looking for you."

Last week, Bloomington police began examining whether there could be any connection between Spierer's disappearance and cases involving a New Albany man investigators said was believed to be involved in the slayings of three women.

The Spierers again implored anyone with information to step forward.

"Consider the possibility that the person you are with today holds the key to unlock this mystery," the message read. "Consider the possibility that the person you are with today is responsible for Lauren's disappearance."

Family members asked anyone with information to contact Bloomington police at 812-339-4477, or Beau Dietl Associates, a private investigating firm, at 800-777-9366.
