(BROWSTOWN) - A Jackson County teen accused of burglary and gang recruiting as well as other criminal activities faces a trial date of Oct. 16 in Jackson Circuit Court.
Aubrey Woods, of the Tribune, reports Juan D. Espejel, 17, of the 500 block R. Pardieck Avenue in Seymour was arrested by county court Security Officer J.L. McIntosh on Tuesday afternoon on a warrant for burglary committed while armed with a deadly weapon, a Class B felony; and criminal gang recruiting of a person younger than 18 within 1,000 feet of a school, a Class C felony.
Espejel, who was being held on $ 50,000 bond, also faces charges of criminal gang activity and theft, both Class D felonies.
Jackson Circuit Judge Bill Vance set Espejel's jury trial for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 16 during an initial hearing on Thursday morning.
Espejel, who listed his birthplace as Mexico City, also is being held on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement order, jail records state.
