(ORLEANS) - The Town of Orleans' original 1926 Peter Pirsch fire truck is about to get a facelift.

The Orleans Fire Department and town officials are conducting fundraising efforts to restore the truck back to its original appearance as the center piece for the town's official 200th birthday celebration set in 2015.

Orleans Town Clerk Robert Henderson says the truck is one of only a handful remaining of its kind and was purchased new in 1928 by the town of Orleans for $6,500. The truck is fully operational and still contains many of its original fittings. It was in service until the mid-1970s.

Donations in any amount can be given towards the truck's refurbishing and can be dropped off or mailed to the Orleans Town Offices, 161 E. Price Ave., Orleans, IN 47452. Memorials are also welcome.

To date nearly $2,000 has been donated by individuals and businesses to be used towards the restoration project.
