North Daviess Seniors Graduate Tonight

(WASHINGTON) - North Daviess High School will hold it commencement exercises at 7 p.m. tonight.

The Washington Times-Herald reports following the processional led by North Daviess faculty and juniors Janice Knepp and Cari Jo Wilson, the voluntary invocation will be led by Chelsea Graber. Stacey Beard, class president, will then make welcoming and introductory remarks.

Sarah Smith, Student Council representative, will then offer a remembrance in honor of Brian Colton Rex Benton, followed by an instrumental selection by the high school band.

Co-salutatorians Lewis Nugent and Lorissa Miller will give their addresses, followed by the valedictorian address by Brandt Lawyer.

A vocal selection by the high school choir will precede the introduction of the speaker, Linda Streepy, and a response to the speaker. A senior tribute created by Marissa Richey will be given by Natasha Trinkle.

Following a reading by Anthony Steffey, Jed Jerrels, principal, will present the diplomas. A voluntary benediction will then precede the recessional.


Brandt Lawyer is the son of Steve and Polly Lawyer of Elnora. He is a four-year participant in football and basketball where he served as co-captain of both his senior year. Brandt also participated in BETA Club, Student Council, ND21 Student Ambassadors, Special Forces, Lemonade N' for Ayden, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Cougar Crazies, Physics Club and Red Cross. He is also a 10-year 4-H member. He is the recipient of the Trustee's Scholarship from Manchester College, where he will be attending in the fall to double major in engineering science and business management. Upon graduation from Manchester College, Brandt will attend Purdue University to specialize in civil engineering.


Lorissa Miller is the daughter of Reuben and Linda Miller of Montgomery. During her high school career she has been active in Beta Club, Student Council (currently serving as vice president), Red Cross (currently serving as president), Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Choir, Cadet Teaching, Cougar Crazies and Yearbook (currently serving as editor). Lorissa has participated in varsity volleyball and softball, is a 10-year member of 4-H, is a volunteer for the Special Forces Baseball League, and is active in her church youth group. Lorissa has earned an Associate of Arts degree in general studies from Oakland City University through the North Daviess-OCU Early College Program. In the fall she will be attending Oakland City University to major in special education and elementary education.

Lewis Nugent is the son of Tom and Carol Nugent of Elnora. Throughout all four years of high school, Lewis has participated in tennis, basketball and baseball. He has participated in Beta Club, Student Council, Physics Club, Spanish Club, Cougar Crazies and is a 10-year 4-H member.

Lewis has earned an Associate of Arts degree in general studies from Oakland City University through the North Daviess-OCU Early College program. He is the recipient of the Adam W. Herbert Presidential Scholarship from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis where he will attend school this fall and major in biology as a member of the Honors College. After earning his degree in biology, Lewis plans to attend dental school.
