(MITCHELL) - Mitchell City Council in Mitchell is looking at enforcing ordinances. During several meetings this year council members have voiced concerns about residents putting trash at the curb, days before it is due to be collected, allowing animals to scatter the trash.

The ordinance states residents can place their trash at the curb between the hours of 6 and 8 a.m. the morning trash is to be collected. Another concern are those who blow grass clippings into roadways, clogging the sewer system and people walking dogs in the school-owned soccer field, cemetery and local parks are not picking up their pet's fecal matter.

City attorney Bryon Steele says the ordinances are in place to address these concerns, but there are no penalties for those who violate the ordinances.

Mayor Gary Pruett hopes that getting the word out about the complaints and possible penalties that residents could face, will cause them to stop the bad practices. If not, the council will have no choice but to start placing penalties and citing violators.
