(MARTINSVILLE) - Martinsville teacher, Jeff McGown, has resigned from his position with the Metropolitan School District of Martinsville, effective May 21.

McGown, a former second-grade teacher and Martinsville High School tennis coach, resigned earlier this week in the wake of three counts of child seduction, all class D felonies.

The charges result from allegations that he had an inappropriate relationship with a girl who was a high school student at the time.

Superintendent Ron Furniss said the district received McGown's request for resignation May 22 and accepted his resignation during an executive session of the MSD of Martinsville school board Wednesday night.

McGown was placed on paid administrative leave April 5.

"With (McGown's) resignation, all ties have been severed with the district," Furniss said. "This includes financially ... he will be paid through May 21 because he was on paid administrative leave."

Furniss said McGown's resignation came from him and his attorney.

McGown's criminal charges are linked to former Martinsville teacher and boys' basketball coach Tim Wolf, who resigned Feb. 16.

Wolf, 65, was found "in a state of nudity" in his car at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis on Feb. 12, according to a police report filed by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

A 17-year-old female was also in the car with Wolf, according to the report.

The Indiana State Police have completed their investigation and not other teachers or staff members are being investigated.
