(SHOALS) - The Martin County 4-H Fair will be held June 20-24 this year and candidates are being sought to compete for Miss Martin County. The pageant will be held Friday, June 20.

The candidate selected as the 2012 Miss Martin County will receive a college scholarship along with various prizes. There is no entry fee to run for Miss Martin County and there will be no sponsorships this year.

The first meeting with candidates and parents or guardians will be Sunday, June 17 at 7 p.m. in the Martin County Learning Center. There will be practice immediately following the meeting. Contestants must bring a pair of heels for this practice.

Practices will be June 17 and 24, and July 8, 15, and 19 at the fairgrounds. The practice on July 19 is mandatory. Practices will start at 6:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds.

Miss Martin County and the runners-up are expected to be in attendance during fair activities.

The fair organizers ask that if you are even remotely interested in running for Miss Martin County, please fill out the form and turn it in before the deadline. Then, attend the first meeting to see what it is all about and decide from there.

The form must be returned to the Martin County Extension Office by June 11.
