Man Killed In Martinsville Was Wearing Headphones

Last updated on Wednesday, May 2, 2012

(MARTINSVILLE) - Morgan County Sheriff Robert Downey says the man who died Tuesday morning and his female companion that were walking in the fast lane of northbound Ind. 37 were from out of town.

The man was hit by a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Peter Scale, of Downers Grove, Illinois. Downey says about three minutes before the accident the sheriff's department received a call from a truck driver reporting people were walking in the roadway.

The man, whose identity has not been released because his family has not been notified, was killed on impact.

The accident occurred south of the Jordan Road and Indiana 37 intersection. The accident is still under investigation and they believe the man may have been wearing headphones, not hearing the traffic, when he was hit.

Police say the couple were staying at the Hillview Motel.
