Last updated on Sunday, May 20, 2012

(BEDFORD) - Bob O’Neal pedaled his way from Atlanta, Ga. to Bedford for his 50th Shawswick High School class reunion.

After five days and 500 miles he arrived on Thursday, the Shawswick Class of 1962 celebrated Friday night.

O'Neal, a retired Delta Airlines pilot, and an avid cyclist, logs close to 5,000 miles a year on a bicycle. His wife Kay rode behind in their Chevy Suburban. He averaged about 28 miles a day.

One of the rough spots on the trip was the climb up the U.S. 50 East hill into Bedford.

O'Neal, 67, grew up in Brook Knoll, one of nine children. He attended St. Vincent School and then Shawswick High School. After graduating from Indiana University, he joined the United States Navy and became a pilot and has been biking for 25 years. His wife Kay also bikes.
