(LINTON) - A Linton man was arrested early Monday on a preliminary charge of vehicle theft after he allegedly stole a motorcycle that was parked outside of downtown Linton bar.

Nick Schneider, of the Greene County Daily World, reports that Jesse L. Hampton, 53, was booked into the Greene County Jail at 12:39 a.m. on Monday by Linton Police Department Officer Debbie McDonald-Miller on a preliminary charge of auto theft - a class D felony.

Bond was set at $4,000.

The stolen motorcycle, a black-colored 2000 Harley Davidson Heritage with saddlebags, is owned by Frank L. Cox, Jr. of Linton.

Cox reported the theft, saying it was parked in front of the Bottom's Up Bar at 33 E. Vincennes Street. At about 10:57 p.m. on Sunday, he heard the cycle start up and take off, according to a Linton Police Department Offense Report.

Cox told police that he exited the building and saw a male suspect on his motorcycle, make a right turn onto Main Street and then headed north toward State Road 54.
The owner said he later "heard" the cycle in the southeast part of town.

The stolen motorcycle was located on SE A Street and returned to the owner.
Hampton was arrested without incident and transported to jail.

Assisting with the case were two other LPD officers, a deputy with the Greene County Sheriff's Department and a deputy marshal from the Worthington Police Department.
