Inmate Escapes From Camp Atterbury

Last updated on Wednesday, May 2, 2012

(EDINBURGH) - Police are advising the public to beware of a prisoner who escaped Atterbury Correctional Center on Tuesday in Johnson County.

Brian Poland, 32, escaped from the prison on the military base, police said in a news release Tuesday. He is described as a white male, 5-foot-10, about 160 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Poland was serving a two-year sentence for theft, but he has a decade-long record of robbery and burglary convictions, police said.

Police advised area residents to make extra effort to be certain that keys are not left in vehicles left outside overnight, and make sure your vehicles and residences are locked securely until this suspect is apprehended.

Anyone who encounters Poland should not approach him, but call 911, police said.
