(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana `Legal Services, Inc. (ILS) present a Veterans’ Benefits Workshop on Thursday, May 10th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 pm. at the American Legion Post 18, located at 1800 West 3” Street in Bloomington.
The Veterans' Benefit Workshop will address Veterans' Administration (VA) health care, service-connect disability compensation, VA income-based pensions, and widow/widower benefits. The workshop will be directed by an ILS attorney who served 22 years in the military - 11 years active duty in the U.S. Air Force and 11 years in the Air National Guard, and the Jefferson County Veterans Service Officer. The ILS attorney will also respond to questions raised by the audience about their specific situations.
This workshop is open to veterans, current service members (active duty, reserves, and National Guard), as well as their spouses and dependents. Pre-registration is not required.
The veterans' workshop is part a new ILS Military Assistance Project initiated in response to media reports that indicate many service members face a myriad of unique civii legal issues due to their sacrifices for this country. They are often unaware of what benefits are available and how to access them. The ILS project attorney seeks to assist veterans and their dependents who face unique problems relating to family law matters, housing, consumer rights, health care, disability, government /public benefits, employment protections, wills and estates and issues relating to correcting conditions of discharge. This special legal project seeks to bridge the gap between counseling and administrative services offered by veterans' organizations and public agencies.

ILS, a not-for-profit organization, provides free legal counsel to seniors, to low income persons, and to victims of domestic violence throughout Indiana on civil legal issues that threaten an individuals ability to obtain (or maintain when threatened) basic necessities, such as personal safety, family integrity, food, shelter, income, and access to medical care. ILS cannot accept cases that might generate attorney fees.
Jefferson Count)/'s Veterans' Service Office of Indiana Department of Veterans' Affairs is dedicated to aiding and assisting "Hoosier" veterans and qualified family members or survivors with obtaining benefits or advantages provided by Indiana and the U.S. government for which they are eligible.
