(DUBOIS COUNTY) - Six locations across Dubois County, including five communities that don't have emergency warning sirens will be getting them.

The county council appropriated $125,000 to purchase the sirens that should be in place by this fall.

The sirens will be placed at the 4-H fairgrounds between Maltersville and Bretzville and in the communities of St. Anthony, Schnellville, Birdseye, St. Henry and Duff.

The one at Duff is an older siren that will be refurbished for about $5000 and placed in what is called the "flat" area of Duff.

St. Anthony Fire Chief Scott Uebelhor spearheaded the effort to get the new sirens.
Council President Greg Kendall says sirens will be purchased soon because prices are expected to increase 5% June 1.

Kendall and other county leaders have been concerned for years about the lack of sirens in less populated areas.

There are currently 26 sirens in place across the county.

Other communities that still won't have sirens are Portersville, Hillham, Cuzco, Kellerville, Mentor, Johnsburg and Crystal.
