(FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP) - A single vehicle accident in rural Franklin Township claimed the life of an Amish man Friday evening.

Stephanie Taylor Ferriell of the Leader-Democrat reports, Daniel Girod, 27, Salem, died at the scene after being ejected from the vehicle he was riding in.

Girod and Matthew Schwartz, 23, were passengers in a 1999 Ford F150 driven by James Lundergan, 28.

Deputy Joe Keltner of the Washington County Sheriff's Department said Lundergan was westbound on Walker Road, a gravel road which runs between Franklin School and Garrison Hollow roads. After crossing the bridge, he lost control of the vehicle. Keltner said Lundergan overcorrected, causing the truck to roll over one time.

Lundergan complained of pain and had a contusion on his chest, said Keltner. He was transported by ambulance to St. Vincent Salem Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Also responding were the Washington County Coroner's Office, Sheriff Claude Combs, the Washington County Ambulance Service and first responders from the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Alcohol or drugs were not factors in the crash, which remains under investigation. Keltner said none of the occupants were wearing seat belts. The crash was reported at 5:12 p.m.
