Bloomington - Naked Man Shot By Police

(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police shot a man who was yielding and firing a gun this morning.

According to Bloomington Police Department Captain Joe Qualters, police were called to the 300 block of East 15th Street around 6:53 a.m. this morning because a man was cursing and screaming and setting off fireworks.

A second call came in at 6:55 a.m. in the same area, of a naked male who was
firing a gun into the rear of a home.

Officers arrived they found a naked, college-aged male with a gun in the alley behind a house in the 300 block of 15th Street. He was ordered to drop the weapon and continued to wave it around. The man then pointed the gun at police, officers again told the man to drop the weapon, he refused and officers fired at the man wounding him.

According to Qualters, the man went down, then sat back p and raised the gun in the direction of another officer. Again officers ordered the man to drop the gun. He refused and police fired a second time.

The identity of the officers involved has not been released. And no one else was injured in the incident.

The man was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital and taken to surgery. Police have not identified the man.

Detectives remained on the scene collecting evidence and talking to witnesses.

Qualters says, multiple shell casings from a 9mm gun were found. Three vehicles and the back door of the home were damaged by gunfire from the man.
