(BLOOMFIELD) - The town of Bloomfield will be full of bargains Saturday with the 16th annual town wide yard sale.
Sabrina Westfalll, of the Greene County Daily World, reports the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce will be set up on the south side of the square with the list of almost 80 locations hosting yard sales throughout the day.
"We had 73 sign up to be on the yard sale map. Calls are still coming in. I have received four today (Wednesday) so for any late entries I will just print off a list and insert them into the maps that will be given out on Saturday at the Chamber booth," Chamber Secretary Jenny Crites explained.
She added the number of participants is a jump from the 60 yard sales listed last year, and they continue to see an increase of foot traffic each year.
"The maps will be published in Friday's edition of the Greene County Daily World. I will also have maps available on Saturday morning, beginning at 7 a.m., on the south side of the courthouse beside MainSource Bank. Donations for the maps will be accepted, with all donations going towards our Fourth of July fireworks fund," Crites added.
Peggy Hayes will be having a fundraising yard sale at Mansions in Heaven Church, located at 201 S. Franklin St., to help her niece, Melissa Laster, pay for medical expenses for her son, Ian.
Ian, 1, is in need of a life-saving kidney transplant due to being diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney Failure.
Along with items donated by the community, Ian's sister, Lilly, will be running the "Ian Aide" lemonade stand.
"Everybody come out and support it because it's for a good cause. He is just a sweet little boy who needs a lot of help," Hayes said.
All proceeds will be donated to the Children's Organ Transplant Association (COTA) to pay for the portion of Ian's surgery not covered by insurance.
In addition to the town wide yard sale, this weekend is the opening of the Community Farmer's Market around the square starting at 8 a.m.
There will be not-for-profit organizations and churches set up around the square selling yard sale items. Farmer's Market organizer Vickie Hatfield added Tri Kappa may be set up selling flowers.
