Bicknell's Big Budget Problems Continue

Last updated on Friday, May 18, 2012

(BICKNELL) - Bicknell officials continue to wrestle with a budget deficit that appears to be growing.

Bicknell Clerk-Treasurer Becky McGlone reported that the city is facing an additional shortfall of 30-thousand dollars according to analysis of the city's revenues by Umbaugh and Associates.

That leaves the city with a total budget deficit of $230,000 dollars that needs to be made up by the end of the year.

Mayor Jon Flickinger presented the council with a list of ideas including taking out a loan for 450-thousand dollars to help with operating expenses.

That idea raised some eyebrows among council members wondering where the money will
from to pay off the loan.

But Flickinger says the loan wouldn't have to be paid back right away.

Councilman Terry Stremming was critical of Flickinger for not providing a list of recommendations where cuts needed to be made in the budget and in regards to laying off or reducing the hours worked by some employees.

As the Chief Executive officer of the City, Stremming says Flickinger is the one responsible for making out the budget and salaries.

The Council has called a special session for next Thursday at 6 pm at which time some decisions are expected to be made.
