Barking Dog And Neighbors Foil Vehicle Theft

Last updated on Tuesday, May 29, 2012

(LINTON) - A barking dog and alert neighbors foiled a vehicle theft in Linton early Friday morning.

Linton Police Det. Paul Clark says that Talisa Hoesman heard dogs barking and woke up about 12:45 a.m. on Friday.

She and her husband, Gary, looked outside to allegedly see 18-year-old Jayce Edward Troup, of Linton, pushing a vehicle.

Gary asked Troup what he was doing and he said he was attempting to push start the 1991 Geo Tracker. However Gary knew the car belonged to his neighbor Bill Thomas and called police.

Troup was arrested, but denied trying to take the vehicle. He was charged with attempted vehicle theft. He was released from jail after posting a $4,000 bond.

An initial hearing was set for 9:30 a.m. in June 1.

Assisting at the scene was LPD Officer Michael Watts.
