Adele Bowden-Purlee Honored At Bedford Chamber Dinner

(BEDFORD) - Adele Bowden-Purlee was awarded the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce’s Service Award, Thursday evening.

More than 370 people attended the event, a all time high attendance for the event.

Bowden-Purlee currently is a Bedford City Council member and is director of Sucess and Oppo9rtunity at Reading (SOAR) and served as past president for more than 20 years.

two decadeschamber president for more than two decades. She also has led various economic development efforts in the community, took over as director of Success and Opportunity at Reading (SOAR) after her retirement and now serves as a Bedford City Council member.

Jamie McNichols Medlock, the current chamber president, read parts of the letters nominating Bowden-Purlee. In the nominations, Bowden-Purlee was praised for her "great energy," for being "fair and brave" and for serving as "a mentor to countless people." She also was cited for being "devoted to the business community."

Guest speakers for the event included:

Don Fischer, radio broadcaster for Indiana University basketball and football games, was the featured speaker.

Duane Embree, NSWC Crane Technical Director, the highest-ranking civilian employee at Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane.
