(WASHINGTON) - Brandon Nicholas Reed, 20, 504 N. Meridian St., was arrested Thursday after running from city and state police officers for almost half an hour.

Andrea McCann, of the Washington Times-Herald, reports the chase was on after Washington Police Detective Daniel Christie received a call just before 3 p.m. from a Walmart employee alerting him that Reed, who was wanted on a warrant for burglary and theft, was in the store at 100 Bypass 50 Plaza. When Christie arrived shortly afterward to take Reed into custody, he fled on foot.

Christie followed him through a field near McAllister's as other WPD officers came to his assistance. Reed ran north through a tree line, and as Christie followed him from the south, other officers moved in from the other directions to cut Reed off.

Sgt. Johnny Lagle positioned himself near McAllister's, and Patrolmen Brandon Humphries and Collin Cornelius moved into the Prairie Village area.

Capt. Tim Guy spotted Reed running toward Campbell's Hill and requested Sgt. Derrick Devine and K-9 Diesel. Indiana State Trooper Gavin Wilson responded to the Beer Can Alley area.

A few minutes later, Reed was spotted walking along the tree line between Auto Clinic and Mi Pueblo. When he saw officers approaching, he doubled back toward Prairie Village. He was taken into custody two minutes later near Dubois County Tire.

"We got him surrounded," Christie said.

"He ran out of places to go."

Following his arrest, Reed was transported to Daviess Community Hospital to be treated for minor abrasions sustained while running through the woods.

From there he was taken to the Daviess County Security Center, where an additional count of resisting law enforcement was added to his charges.

The bond amount on his warrant is $25,000.
