(BEDFORD) - 20-year-old Nathan Padgett, of Bedford is wanted on a warrant for allegedly spray painting several cars, including a city police car and a county police cruiser.
Bedford Police Department Chief Dennis Parsley says Padgett confessed to detectives Tuesday night that he was the one who spray painted the vehicles, signs and the Lawrence County Courthouse.
Parsley says he doesn't have an estimate on the damages but says it will probably be several thousand dollars. Police say Padgett was one of the protectors who were in front of the courthouse plaza Monday and spray painted the name "Braden" and various other words.
Braden Wilson was the man who was shot to death by Brent Knapp. On Monday Lawrence Superior Court II Judge William Sleva accepted Knapp's guilty pleas to reckless homicide and criminal recklessness. As that hearing was being conducted in court, protesters outside expressed their views that the man should be charged with murder.
Parsley says he doesn't know if the two incidents are related, but did say Padgett acted alone in the vandalism. Parsley says Padgett faces charges of criminal mischief and there could be other charges added.
