* William A. Cook, 35, Paoli, charged with burglary, Class C felony; theft, Class D felony, and possession of stolen property, Class D felony.

According to a news releasereports ISP Trooper Brock Werne was headed home after his shift on 47th Street and Portersville Road when he saw a man standing near an all-terrain vehicle in his neighbor's driveway.

Werne also noticed a green Chevrolet pickup truck slowing down near the ATV. The truck's bed contained a riding lawn mower and a dirt bike.

When Werne turned to investigate, the driver of the pickup truck drove away and the other man jumped on the ATV and fled the area. Minutes later, the ATV crashed through Werne's wood privacy fence and storage shed.

The driver of the ATV fled the area on foot.

The pickup truck was later found abandoned at 44th and Baden Strasse. More than two hours later, ISP Trooper Phil Hensley located Cook on County Road 300 North, about one and a half miles from the incident. Police say Cook had been driving the pickup truck before it was abandoned.

Troopers later determined Salmon was driving the stolen ATV.

Troopers say Cook and Salmon had burglarized a residence on Portersville Road about three and a half miles north of Jasper earlier Thursday morning.

Troopers believe the riding lawn mower and dirt bike were stolen, but have not yet found the owner.

Salmon was arrested at his home, without incident.

Both men being held on bond in the Dubois County Jail.
