(HARDIN RIDGE) - Fifth-grade students from Bedford and Bloomington were at Hardin Ridge Recreation Area in the Hoosier National Forest, to learn about everything from kayaking to camping.

215 Students attended the Fifth Annual Kids Unplugged Event.

There were 11 stations set up and children got to pick which three they wanted to attend, according to Stacy Duke, district recreation manager for the Brownstown Ranger district of the Hoosier National Forest. The kids were fed lunch before the entire group learns about birds from WildCare Inc.

The goal was to allow student to experience the outdoors and encourage them to try and learn new things, Duke said. She added many of the students had never been camping or done any of the activities offered.

Students also each received a backpack filled with interesting items, including binoculars so students could continue the learning experience at home.
